Town Hall & Symphony Hall dates added.

Birmingham Town Hall and Symphony Hall has announced its biggest autumn season of contemporary music to date, featuring over 70 performances from UK and international artists between September and November 2013.

The season opens at Symphony Hall on Wednesday 28th August with one of just three UK concert hall dates from David Byrne & St Vincent, and goes on to include performances from Hawaiian singer-songwriter Jack Johnson (12th September, Symphony Hall), young British folk star Laura Marling (1st October, Symphony Hall), pop-rock turned jazz artist Bryan Ferry (T19th November, Symphony Hall) and singer and activist Billy Bragg (24th November, Symphony Hall).

Around 70,000 music fans are expected to visit the two city venues over the coming months for gigs and events including a one-off show from acid-jazz pioneers The Brand New Heavies (6th September, Town Hall), The Heritage Orchestra’s Live_Transmission: Joy Division Reworked (28th September, Symphony Hall), author and broadcaster Stuart Maconie’s The People’s Songs (16th October, Town Hall) and celebratory project Soul Caribbean featuring Town Hall Gospel Choir (23rd October, Town Hall).

Artists opening their tours at the venues include country-pop star LeAnn Rimes (14th September, Symphony Hall), influential rock group Mott the Hoople (11th November, Symphony Hall) and jazz vocalist Madeleine Peyroux (20th November, Town Hall). Following the release of their debut album Where The Heaven Are We Now, Birmingham buzz band SWIM DEEP play an anticipated show in their home city (20th September, Town Hall).

Jazzlines, Town Hall Symphony Hall’s dynamic programme of live jazz performances and education projects across Birmingham, brings local emerging talent and artists from across the globe to various city venues; amongst them are Swedish drumming legend Magnus Öström (13th September, Adrian Boult Hall), Birmingham’s own modern day marching band Young Pilgrims (26th September, Hare and Hounds) US saxophonist David Murray with his Infinity Quartet (18th October, CBSO Centre), and South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela with US master pianist Larry Willis (16th November, Town Hall).
