Unemployed people with skills and experience in a range of industries and who have recent work experience, are being urged to take up a free course leading to new careers and jobs in training.

Training experts BCTG are looking for people with experience in areas including construction, engineering, retail, hospitality and business administration to become assessors.

The Oldbury-based company has secured a grant from the Skills Funding Agency to run a series of two-week courses where skilled unemployed people can qualify to become NVQ/QCF assessors.

Chris Luty, BCTG director, said: “Vocational training is by its nature work-based learning which requires both trainers and assessors who are experts and skilled in their particular industry depending on the NVQ in question.

“In the current climate there are many highly skilled and experienced people who are out of work and through this course could find well-paid employment if they channelled their skills into the role of an NVQ assessor.

“We are running these two week intensive courses for people who are looking for a change in direction within their occupation and who want to get back into employment or use it as a chance to become self-employed assessors.  This is an ideal opportunity for those with a valued skill to give back what they know to others”

The courses will be run at BCTG’s offices in Taylor’s Lane, Oldbury over the forthcoming months and are open to people aged over 19 who are currently unemployed.

At the end of the course people those who pass will gain a Level 3 Award in Asssessing Vocationally Related Achievement and in Facilitating Learning and Development.
