James Bond and Holly Golightly?

Or rather Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn?

They make screen magic in Robin and Marian (Fri, More4 11.20am), a great take on the Sherwood Forest lark.

007, no I mean Connery, is Ye Olde Worlde Robin Hood -wartorn and tired after 20 years fighting in the Middle East. He’s a busted flush.

Holly Golightly, no I mean Audrey, is Lady Marian who long ago forgot her woodland lover and became a nun.

Robin returns to find things even worse than when he left. I mean, the men in Lincoln Green are a shabby bunch of losers, the Sheriff is wreaking havoc and the lawn hasn’t been cut in 18 years.

Robin quickly whips them into shape and..here we go… Robin and his Merry (and geriatric) Men taken on the baddies in the castle.

Robert Shaw is Baddie Incarnate  as the evil sheriff, Ronnie Barker is great as Friar Tuck and Nicol Williamson is Robin’s right hand hard man John. Good cast.

Connery and La Hep of course agree that their affair has long been over. But of course fall madly in love. But age has caught up with them.

The ending is either cheesy or will bring tears to your jaded eyes, depending on your mood.

So,  set the record for the heart of the sun. It’s a beauty.
