The final of the competition takes place at The Crescent Theatre this Sunday (May 5), with 36 finalists lining up to wow the judges.

The winner will be chosen on the night and will go on to represent Birmingham in the Miss England final, as well as serving as an ambassador for the city for the next year. She will follow in the footsteps of the current Miss Birmingham, Kris’ina Jagpal (CORR), who won the title last March and went on to win a special ‘Miss Inspiration’ award at Miss England.

The reigning Miss England, Charlotte Holmes, will be among the judges making up the all-female panel which will crown the 2013 winner.

A total of 36 impressive candidates aged between 17 and 24 have been picked from across the West Midlands out of hundreds of entrants, with the finalists all impressing through a series of written entries, open auditions and interviews with judges.

Finalists will take part in a professional-style catwalk fashion show in front of proud friends and family, displaying a range of outfits in four categories.

The categories are:

  • Sports Wear – To show their hobbies, interests and personalities, each contestant will model a sportswear outfit of their choosing (NB. Swimwear is strictly not permitted).
  • Party Wear – A chance for the finalists to dress up as if going to a party with their girlfriends.
  • Evening Wear/Prom Wear – The finalists can choose an evening dress or prom dress, showing their chic and glamorous side.
  • Eco Wear – This round is aimed at promoting sustainable fashion. The outfit must not be bought new and so must be something borrowed, handed down, plucked from a charity shop or made from recycled or ethically sourced materials.

Chief Scout Kerry Capoverde said: “We have had so many impressive entries for the Miss Birmingham competition that it has been a really tough task to whittle it down to the finalists.

“But we are delighted with the response we have had and really impressed with every single one of our finalists. We are sure any one of them would do Birmingham proud and Sunday will be a very exciting event as we choose the worthy winner to wear the Miss Birmingham crown for the next year.

“This is not just a beauty contest but aimed at finding an ambassador for the West Midlands, so we want to make sure the winner has the personality and compassion to be a real success in the role.”
