Student develops innovative business

An entrepreneurial student has launched his own business to help college leavers apply and prepare for university life.

Edu-eyeJoshua Whale, who is in his final year of a BA (Hons) Business Management (Enterprise) degree at the University of Wolverhampton, received assistance as part of his course to develop ‘Edu-Eye’.

Part of the business is the ‘Uni-CAP Programme’, which is a series of six workshops focused on college or sixth form students undertaking research to ‘Choose’ a course and university, ‘Apply’ for their course and finally ‘Prepare’ for their arrival on campus.

The Uni-CAP Programme pack has been bought by the Sixth Form College at The King’s C of E School, Wolverhampton, and also by Dudley College.

Having gained feedback from current university students, Joshua also found that many didn’t come through the traditional route straight from full-time education and he wanted to support them too. He has released the workshops as a set of three books, which are now available on Amazon Kindle and via the Edu-Eye website and are generating significant interest.

Helen Williams, visiting lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton Business School, said: “I’m very proud of Joshua’s achievement. His story is one of a student battling through tough economic times to create a viable business through the skills he has learnt throughout his degree.”

Joshua Whale said: “Edu-Eye is an enterprise that aims to provide resources and aid to students wishing to apply for universities and colleges. I’m grateful for the assistance that the University of Wolverhampton have given me in order to get the project off the ground.”
