Internationally acclaimed award winning stand-up comedian and Guardian columnist Shazia Mirza will be returning to The Public on Friday 15 February 2013 with a brand new show.
Throughout the show Shazia takes the audience on a fact finding mission of Cuckooland. Everyone lives there though few know it. It is a place where anyone can be anything, do anything and say anything. A land where the inhabitants don’t give a monkey’s what anyone thinks. To hell with it! They’re going to say it anyway! We all know we’re a bit deluded sometimes but few can admit that we’re all citizens of the rich and diverse Cuckooland called home.
Since winning the Metro Magazine’s People’s Choice Best Comic Award at the London Comedy Festival 2002, the Birmingham born British Asian comic has never looked back. Renowned for her hilarious stand up routines, Shirza has toured India for the British Council, gigged at the Arosa Comedy Festival in Switzerland and performed in Miami, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Zurich, Luxembourg and Galway.
In huge demand with coverage from press, TV and radio across the world, she has performed on The Wright Stuff’ (C5) ‘Have I Got News For You’ (BBC) ‘Joan Bakewell’s Taboo’ (BBC) ’60 Minutes’ (BBC) and ‘Richard & Judy’ (C4). She is also an established columnist having written columns for The Guardian, Virgin Trains travel magazine ‘Hotline’ and the New Statesman for which she won the PPA Best Columnist Award in 2008 and currently writes for DAWN, Pakistan’s oldest and most widely read English newspaper and website www.dawn.com.
