Of Terry, Cole and Football: Bring Back The Summer of Light

the grubby world of football is upon us once again

by Richard Lutz.

The summer of love is over. The Olympic are gone. Britain did it right. The athletes triumphed, the weather held out, the security wasn’t  even an issue.

So, it’s time for football. What a grubby re-entry. First John Terry – after being found innocent of racial slurs- is poleaxed by the FA and quits the England team. And now his pal Ashley Cole is to be fined  about £250,000 for being an abusive jerk with  texts aimed at the FA and the rule of law generally.

What a comedown. What a bummer. From athletes, whether black or white, who tried their hardest and were never the target of race or disability, to overpaid, cretinous football players who wouldn’t know public duty or respect if it came up and bit them on their genitals.

For the FA to even think off a code of conduct for men who earn up  to  six figures per week  smacks of something that stinks down below in the bowels of the game. This country is opening an elegant sophisticated  training ground at St George’s for these demented footie stars and they still think it is OK to call their bosses ‘a bunch of twats’ and infer they lied to the public over the Anton Ferdinand race case.

Terry won’t play for England again- and he’s the former captain- because he knew the FA was going to come down on him like a ton of bricks and the future king, Prince William, is shown laughing and shaking hands with Cole who can’t make out the difference between the freedom of social media  and its responsibilities.

On top of this, Millwall is being investigated about racist behaviour this week on its terraces.

Football and its stars are a bane of negativity. Bring back the Olympics and  that summer of light.
