Odds on favourite Dry Rot races to Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre

John Chapman’s long reigning comedy, Dry Rot, will run at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry from Mon 22 to Sat 27 October featuring an all-star cast, including Smethwick born Liza Goddard and soap star Gemma Bissix.

Written by John Chapman, who wrote over 200 TV comedies including Emmy award-winning Fresh Fields, Happy Ever After and The Liver BirdsDry Rot originally ran for over three years on the West End. The play is regarded as a classic example of its genre and featured in The National Theatre’s Top 100 plays.

The story of this 1950s horse racing farce follows a crooked bookie and two accomplices as they devise a plan to get rich quick by stealing the odds on favourite horse, with disastrous consequences.

The eccentric mix of characters will be complimented by a full cast of well-known British actors, including Liza Goddard returns to the Midlands to lead the cast.

Joining her are Gareth Hale, who is one half of comedy duo Hale and Pace and Gemma Bissix, who is most known for playing a string of bad girls including Clare Bates in Hollyoaks and Clare Devine in Eastenders.

Long-standing British actor Neil Stacy will also be appearing, alongside Andrew Paul, who is recognisable for his role in long running ITV series, The Bill and  Steven Blakely, who in 2006 was nominated for a National Television Award for Best Newcomer and has been in four series’ of ITV drama Heartbeat.
