The concert, which will be conducted by the Bolshoi Theatre’s former music director, Alexander Vedernikov, takes place on Sunday 28 October at 7pm. Usually experienced as part of a ballet performance, it’s set to be an unmissable evening that offers the chance to hear this ever-popular music performed by some of the best young musicians and singers in the UK.

‘It’s an absolutely glorious score, full of colour and emotion – so much more than just the famous bits like the Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy and the Waltz of the Flowers”, said Richard Bratby, Senior Education and Ensembles Coordinator.

“Often in a theatre performance, you don’t hear every note of The Nutcracker. We haven’t got any dancers, but the acoustics of Symphony Hall mean that you’ll hear Tchaikovsky’s music like never before – all the great melodies, the passion, and the brilliant little details that make this piece so magical. And we’re thrilled to be working with Alexander Vedernikov – a conductor from the heart of the great Russian ballet tradition, who has this music in his blood. This should be a very special night”, Richard concluded.

The CBSO is committed to developing the next generation of talent, with its Youth Orchestra and Children’s Chorus offering young people the chance to work with some of the world’s greatest conductors and musicians.
