Tonight sees the latest heat of the Robin2/M2 Studios Live Band of the Year competition. Taking part this week are Worcester-based Into the Fire, Walsall grunge-ers Arkhamists and Naked Sunday, from Stafford. Tickets £3.
On Tuesday there’s the latest in the Sam Draisey open mic sessions. It starts at 8, admission’s free, so turn up and listen or have a go yourself.
There’s an exclusive on Thursday with one of the first two UK shows ever for the ultimate cult prog band, Pavlov’s Dog. Formed in 1972, and over the years featuring contributions from members of bands such as Yes, Roxy Music, Steely Dan and King Crimson, they took a break for almost thirty years before reforming in 2004, and have toured regularly in Europe since then. On Friday there’s another cult hero, albeit one who’s had a bit more chart success, in the shape of Mungo Jerry. The weather seems to have improved in time for the visit of a band who will always be associated with summer, even though singer Ray Dorsey has also worked with such diverse acts as Peter Green and comedian Johnny Vegas. On Saturday there’s U2 tribute Achtung Baby. Tickets £9
Sunday sees another first when the Robin stages its first professional wrestling bill, featuring amongst others British heavyweight champion Mad Dog Maxx and former world champion Davey Richards. Tickets £6
Finally, on Bank Holiday Monday there’s the iconic Hammond sounds of Stax legend Booker T.
