Capoeira Drummers march on Birmingham

This Saturday – 7th July – Samuel Mascote and his Cordao de Ouro Birmingham team will march a huge street demonstration from the Custard Factory at 2pm, culminating in a 100-strong Berimbau (Afro-Brazilian drum) performance in front of Birmingham Cathedral at 2.15pm.

Cordao de Ouro BirminghamThis performance is part of a collaboration between the Old Joint Stock Theatre’s Brazilian Summer Festival and the 3rd International Capoeira Festival. It is the culmination of the International Capoeira Festival (6-7 July), a weekend of Capoeira workshops and demonstrations featuring 150 performers from around the world; and kicks off the Old Joint Stock’s Brazilian Summer Festival (7-15 July), a week and a bit of Brazilian fun in the Old Joint Stock Pub & Theatre, featuring a Brazilian Home Cooking Menu all week, Brazilian Movies in the Theatre, Brazilian Jazz in the bar and much more.

Cordao de Ouro Birmingham (CDOB) have been promoting Capoeira and traditional Brazilian arts, dance and music since 2009. Cordao de Ouro was established in Brazil 1967 in Sao Paulo and now has branches across the world in over 50 different countries.
