Students show it’s not all Hogwash at University Degree Show

Coventry University student group Hogwash Theatre will be bringing its new show – The Vegetable Plot – to the city in May as part of the School of Art and Design’s Performing Arts festival, SPECTRUM 2012.

Theatre and Professional Practice students - Pippa Church, Alice Pegrum and Kurt Booth

Fresh from its first tour, and with an innovative attitude to the world of stage performance, Hogwash Theatre creates a world of strawberry jam and silly songs in The Vegetable Plot – all conveniently wrapped up with a stretchy string of bunting.

Using puppetry, storytelling and live music, The Vegetable Plot tells the tale of the quaint village of Wigglesbotttom as its quirky residents put the final touches to its annual fête.

The students – Alice Pegrum, Kurt Booth and Pippa Church – are aiming to provide an enjoyable experience for all the family, and have already secured a sponsor and an invitation to perform at Stratford-upon-Avon’s Fringe Festival in early June.

Alice Pegrum, final year Theatre and Professional Practice student at Coventry University and member of Hogwash Theatre, said: “We created ‘The Vegetable Plot’ as a way to comment on topical issues in a fun and imaginative way. During our time studying at Coventry University, we have learnt a lot about the performing arts industry, and we’re aiming to use that experience to offer the audience an entertaining and energetic show.”

Hogwash Theatre’s performances are free to attend and will be taking place May 11th – 12th in Cathedral Square, 11:30pm and 1:30pm, and on May 17th – 19th in the War Memorial Park, Kenilworth Road, 11:30pm and 1:30pm.

SPECTRUM 2012 is Coventry University’s annual festival celebrating the huge diversity of imagination and talent of its final year performing arts students. The festival forms part of the undergraduates’ Degree Show 2012, which exhibits the original work of the UK’s next generation of creative talent.
