Martineau Gardens Spring Event, Edgbaston

Morris Dancers, an accordion band and Earth Oven cooking are some of the treats in store for visitors to Martineau Gardens annual spring event on Sunday 20 May, from 11am – 3pm.

Martineau GardensThe organically maintained Community Garden is holding a family friendly fête to encourage visitors to enjoy an afternoon relaxing in the Gardens and having fun.

There will be live music and performances from Black Adder Morris Dancers, Moseley Village Band, Ingrid’s Accordions and Carlo Mahalo Ukuleles . The Martineau Gardens’ team will be lighting up the Earth Oven so visitors can try their hand at outdoor cooking and there will be garden experts answering gardening queries and selling plants grown at the Gardens. There will be wildlife activities and drop-in pottery sessions organised for younger visitors. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics, but there will be delicious home-made cakes, salads and sandwiches and other refreshments on sale.

Gardeners will enjoy the opportunity to stock up on Martineau Gardens Spring herbaceous plants and compost. Plant Heritage the garden plant conservation charity, will be selling a selection of their plants. There will be freshly-cut vegetables and salads for sale.

The Gardens, though only two miles from Birmingham city centre are a green oasis that is teeming with wildlife. There’s plenty to enjoy, including woodland, glass houses, formal gardens, orchards, vegetable plots, a wildflower meadows and a ‘Shipwreck’ children’s play area.

Caroline Hutton, Director of Martineau Gardens said:“This event is all about having fun and enjoying the Gardens in the height of spring – it’s a tranquil space in the heart of Birmingham. We want to welcome lots of new faces to the Gardens.”

The Spring Event takes place at Martineau Gardens, 27 Priory Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham, B5 7UG.

Admission is £3 (non-members), £1(concessions), families £6 (maximum two adults) and free to members.

Located five minutes from the MAC and opposite the Priory Hospital.

There are parking spaces available on site or the Gardens are served by buses 1, 45, 47, 61, 63, X62 or X64.
