Rip it up and start again

Brendan King has some advice for the Wolves management.

It’s gone mad on twitter with the ‘Sack Mac’ campaign. Jamie O’Hara has already apologised to all Wolves fans on there, vowing to play his heart out to try to keep Wolves in the Premiership.

Local Labour councillor, Bob Piper, tweets: “Morgan, forget the new stand — no need for it in the Championship — it’ll be empty”.

Apparently, Morgan wasn’t at the match — gone on his hols with his missus and children as it’s half term. He needs to jet home ASAP to sack Mick.

The ‘Stick with Mick’ twitter / facebook site has closed down forever.

It seems unanimous that MM has to go immediately.

Mick’s apologised (“first apology for a team performance I’ve ever made”) in an abrupt, angry, one minute Radio WM post match interview.

It’s not ‘if’ but ‘when’ will McCarthy get the boot! Who’ll replace him? Who’d want the job?

This was live on Sky TV! Our fans (those who hadn’t left after the fifth goal) were singing ‘You’re gonna get the sack tomorrow’ (in all stands in the ground – not just the usual North and South stands) to McCarthy – in front of a full lower Steve Bull stand of Baggies fans — they were in ‘Boing Boing’ heaven at the unbelievable spectacle.

I’ve never felt so embarrassed and humiliated in over 50 years as a Wolves supporter! And out of favour / out of form Peter Odemwingie destroyed our well known weak left side and scored a hat-trick! And ex Wolves midfielder, Keith Andrews, scored the fourth goal on his Baggies debut! How more humiliating and ‘salt in the wound rubbing’ could any defeat be?

Mick stated “I don’t blame the fans for their reaction and chants against me and the boos at the end — we were dreadful and it’s unacceptable” That’s a resignation statement if ever I heard one!

He’s right – Sunday was unprecedented, unbelievable, unacceptable. Worst defeat to Baggies at Molineux in over half of a century – all the time I’ve supported Wolves. This is reported as the heaviest defeat to Albion since 1964. I was 21 then and I’m now 68.

Go Mick – now – for pity’s sake! For the sake of the players, for the sake of the supporters, for your own sake. No more of this humiliation, please.

I actually feel sorry for the players. They’re not as bad as a 5-1 thrashing by WBA. It’s the way they’re coached and directed during the game. Doyle played his heart out for no reward. Same for the rest – even those who aren’t Premier League quality! The whole team were humiliated today and the better ones will be looking for fresh clubs when the season’s over.

We need to go down now to rebuild the team. As Cllr Piper intimates, the new stand is just a distraction and no more rebuilding of the stadium should happen until the whole team is restored after a couple of seasons in the Championship,

This has to be under a new young management team with progressive coaching, fitness and scouting regimes (as with Swansea and Norwich). Definitely we don’t want other second raters such as Steve Bruce or Neil Warnock -they’re no better than McCarthy.

It’s time for a completely fresh start at Wolves, a root and branch revamping of the coaching, academy, fitness and scouting set up.

It’s start again time at the Wolves and the sooner it’s got on with the better!
