Lite: Created and performed by Marlene McKenzie

Created and performed by Marlene McKenzie, Lite uncovers the emotional and physical journey a young woman will take to fit into society today.  Tackling hard hitting social issues, the thought provoking and moving production looks at the pressures women face from both the media and peers to conform.

A far-reaching exploration of skin lightening, Lite follows the story of Cheryl, and her fears of being turned into a clone, in an absorbing one woman show.  With a commanding soundtrack and emotive projection, the intoxicating production has received incredible audience reaction to date.

Stimulating much conversation over identity, anti-bullying and body image, Lite is followed by a short talk-back session tackling the issues raised in the performance.   A powerful educational tool, special workshops for children and young people are also available.

Lite was developed in 2010 when Marlene was granted a Creative Leap award in recognition of her potential to create high quality performance work. This full production of Lite is supported by an Arts Council England Grants for the Arts award and with thanks to the continued support of Creative Leap and sampad.

The performance takes place at The Public on Monday 6 February at 1.30pm and 7.30pm.  Tickets are £9 (£7 concessions) and £5 for schools for the matinee performance, and are available from www.thepublic.com or by calling 0121 533 7161.
