Light House will be the first gallery in the region to show Selling Dreams: One Hundred Years of Fashion Photography, an exhibition charting the rise of fashion photography and looking at the influential collaborations between editors, art directors and photographers which shaped epochs of style throughout the past century.

The exhibition will be on show at Light House Gallery from Friday 14 October 2011 to Friday 13 January 2012.

To accompany the exhibition there will also be a special event where Susanna Brown, Curator of the V&A’s Selling Dreams exhibition, will be visiting Light House to give a special talk about the exhibition on Thursday 27 October, 2pm. Admission to the exhibition will be free and the cost of the talk will be £3. For more info or to book tickets for the talk contact Light House Box Office on 01902 716055 or visit www.light-house.co.uk

This exhibition will chart how the medium of fashion photography flourished with the rise of illustrated magazines and reveals the fascinating dialogue between fashion photography and fine art photography.

he V&A is home to the UK’s National Collection of the Art of Photography. The Collection comprises over half a million works including many hundreds of fashion photographs. This is the first touring exhibition from the V&A’s Collection to explore the work of international fashion photographers and to draw together such a broad range of important historic and contemporary fashion images. This exhibition will be unveiled to the region for the very first time at Light House, as part of a UK tour.

Curator Kathryn Kliszat said, “This exhibition is beautiful and scholarly, glamorous and insightful. We are also lucky to have Curator Susanna Brown at Light House this October to talk in more depth about the exhibition and the amazing collection of photographs which are a must see for any fashionista or photographer!”
