Star in your own silent comedy!

The Public in West Bromwich are inviting members of The Public to ‘Come and Play’ in their new interactive piece of art on the ground floor of the building.

As visitors enter a specially constructed white room, multiple versions of themselves are replicated and made visible on the LCD screen for passers by to see.  Using silent comedy as an inspiration, the participatory exhibit creates a unique and entertaining showpiece that can be enjoyed by all.

On Monday to Wednesday during February half-term and each Saturday thereafter from 10am – 2pm, The Public are inviting people to bring along their own props and costumes and perform in the enclosed space for free.  Hats, umbrellas, skipping ropes and even dancing toddlers are welcome, as the fun and engaging piece of art looks set to entertain the whole family.  All that’s advised is that dark colours work best!

During these special sessions, live performances will be filmed and uploaded to The Public’s website for people to enjoy at home.

Since opening on 2 February, Collide-o-scope, created by artist Naren Wilks, has already been enjoyed by hundreds of visitors to the arts centre, including Bharatanatyam dancer, Devika Rao and Tea Dancers from the fortnightly Tea Dancing sessions.  To see the amazing videos of them performing in Collide-o-scope visit www.thepublic.com.

Collide-o-scope is a free exhibition on the ground floor of The Public which can be visited Monday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm.

Naren Wilks will be ‘In Residence’ at The Public on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 February where visitors to the arts centre will be given a unique opportunity to meet him and ask him questions about his work.  Naren will be filming a new piece of work in the space and continuing his interest in silent film and slap-stick comedy.
