West Midlands Police appeal for help to indentify body

POLICE are appealing for information after the body of a man was recovered from a Birmingham canal.

The body, which has not yet been identified, was discovered around 8am yesterday (Thursday 4, 2010) in the Birmingham & Fazeley canal near Tyburn Road junction with Wheelwright Road, Erdington.

Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Edwards from Force CID, said: “At this stage, we are treating the death as unexplained.

“The body has not yet been identified and we are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

“We can confirm the body is that of a white male in his mid 50s. The body may have been in the water for around 24 hours. We believe he may be local to the area and police inquiries are ongoing in order to identify anyone who may be missing.

“A forensic post mortem is due to take place and until then, the death remains unexplained.”

“If someone in your area has been missing for a few days and fits the description, please make contact with police.”
